USA number for WhatsApp: free vs paid, what really works

Thinking of a free USA number for WhatsApp? Here is why most free ones fail and how Nigerians get a working American number today.

Updated October 2026

Quick answerFree USA numbers almost never work for WhatsApp in 2026 because thousands of people have used them already. A paid virtual number is private to you for the verification, so the code comes to you and the account stays yours.

Step by step

On Plugg Buy a number, set the country to United States.
Pick WhatsApp and pay from your wallet.
Enter the +1 number on WhatsApp.
Your code shows on the Plugg page. Finish setup.
Set a profile photo and turn on two-step verification.

Why free USA numbers fail

They are listed on public websites, so WhatsApp has already seen them many times and blocks them.
Anyone can read the code, so even if it works, someone else can log in after you.

Paid apps vs Plugg

Apps like TextNow often need a US connection and many of their numbers are blocked by WhatsApp. On Plugg you pay in naira and the code shows up on the page in seconds.

Get a number now

Pick a country and app, pay, and your code shows up right on the page.
